Safety
Talking to a random stranger should feel low-stakes, not risky. Here's what's built in to keep it that way, and what to do if something feels off.
What's already protecting you
- Chats are anonymous by default; no real names, ever, unless you both choose otherwise.
- Every chat is capped at 5 minutes, and either side can leave at any point.
- Blocking is instant, permanent, and needs no explanation.
- Reporting blocks the other person automatically and flags the conversation for review.
Ground rules
Be a decent person. Concretely, that means no:
- Harassment, threats, or targeted cruelty
- Sexual content involving minors, or attempts to solicit or groom a minor
- Impersonation or claiming to be someone you're not
- Sharing someone else's personal information without consent
- Sharing intimate images of someone without their consent
- Bots, scripts, or automated messaging
- Spam, scams, or promoting illegal goods and services
If someone makes you uncomfortable
Block them. You don't need a reason, and they're never told. If you think others should be warned too, report instead: it blocks them and sends a snapshot of the conversation for review, with a reason attached (harassment, spam, inappropriate content, self-harm risk, or other).
If you or someone you're talking to is in crisis
If a conversation touches on suicide or self-harm, please take it seriously and reach out for real support: in Taiwan, the Anxin Hotline (1925) is free and available anytime. Outside Taiwan, searching "crisis hotline" with your country name will surface a local option, and in an emergency, contact local emergency services directly. Reporting a conversation with the self-harm risk category flags it for us to review as well.
Zero tolerance
Content involving child sexual abuse, credible threats of violence, or terrorism gets removed and the account permanently banned on sight, and reported to the relevant authorities where we're legally required to.
What happens after you report
Reports are reviewed by us directly. Koi Koi is small right now, so this is a manual process rather than an automated one; we won't always be able to follow up individually, but every report is read.
